Everything Old

everything old signature sock

This lovely lovely yarn is ‘signature sock’ yarn, hand dyed and spun by Everything Old, from Victoria, BC.  I caught up with them at Fibers West and was instantly won over.

Here they are…

I’m so enjoying using this yarn that I almost don’t want to rush making them…but i know wearing them is going to be pretty good, too.

Sweet spring projects

Stash-busting shawl. I call it the St Ives shawl because the colours remind me of that part of Cornwall (which I really love and miss). The frill is made from hand-dyed yarn – black bean and onion! It’s a simple pattern based on Abyssal: you can find it free online in French or English here.

Some stripy hand-dyed socks that can be knit toe-up or top-down. If you grew up in the ‘70s or ‘80s in the UK and watched Bagpuss as a child these might remind you of a certain lovable old cloth cat…Pattern coming soon!

I love these fingerless mitts so much I’ve decided to call them Smittens. So quick and easy to knit, really comforting to wear. Pattern coming soon!

Great minds think alike?

Have you ever had what seemed like an original idea…
Only to find that very shortly afterwards, someone else came up with something SPOOKILY close to what you had envisioned?

I’ve just had that experience with these socks:

The colour, the broderie stitch, maybe not the wavy up and down patterns.
But still. Weird.

I’m still going to make some soon to test my idea – but it no longer feels ‘experimental’. I hadn’t seen that particular lace stitch on a sock before. Now I know it’s ‘out there’. And I think it looks great, by the way!

There are lots of other fabulous designs at the Twist Collective website, too - don’t forget to check out their archive.

Socks to go

A quick update on the completion theme – the socks are done. Here they are in all their glory:

The top is a ‘bracken’ lace pattern. The merged colourway was something I invented to use a small amount of Mini Mochi sock yarn that blended to green…

Ready to hit the streets? (the shoes are ‘vintage’ Red or Dead – as in I bought them new in the mid-1990s!)
